Women Leadership Institute Activities
Trainings
During April, 2009, WLI conducted
different trainings for women: Capacity building training for
the gender focal point in Erbil, "The role of youth in peaceful
coexistence" in Kirkuk, and provincial council training in Erbil.
These trainings aim at building
Iraqi women capacities and teach them skills enable them to take
these role in the society and in the political process.
Workshops
Through
April, 2009, WLI implemented workshops about the Support and
advocacy skills, in:- Karbala, Najaf, Deyala, Naynawa, Wasit,
Babil, Nasriya, Dewaniya, Samawa and Basrah.
In the workshops, the lecturers
gave definition of advocacy campaign and planning to it, and
talked about CSO role in this field. WLI aimed through these
workshops to enable civic activists to promote women’s political
participation through grassroots activities, lobbying for
legislative reforms and enforcement measures. Through the
workshops participants were divided into workgroups each group
practice planning for advocacy campaign then the groups
presented their work and many discussions and point of views
made about the work.
Ministry
lectures
WLI conducted educational
lectures for women in different ministries about “The
participation of women in leadership positions and
decision-making” Through these lectures the lecturers tried to
encourage participants to raise leadership position in order to
advance the role of women in their ministries, also her address
legal literacy regarding discrimination against women.
Seminars
WLI held number of seminars about
the provincial councils and their role in
building democracy in: Deyala, Naynawa, Wasit, Babil, Karbala,
Dewania, Mothanna and Basrah. The lecturers talked about the
structure of the provincial council and its impact on the
citizen’s life.
Radio
Broadcasting Program
WLI is implementing
a radio broadcasting programs in the following Iraqi provinces:
Karbala, Wasit, Babil,
Dewaniya, and Basrah,
about "the role of provincial councils in promote women's
political participation". The radio program consist of several
episodes, each episode is starting with short definition of WLI
and then talking about issues related to the governorate
councils’ elections, electoral law and women’s role in political
construction.
